Yes, there are baby chicks in there, it is just hard to see them!

On Tuesday night, April 14, 2026 the tornado siren sounded and our family headed to basement. Our basement is a walk out, so we could watch the storm unfold, constant lightning, howling winds, torrential rain. My kids were following the storm chasers on their phones, and realized there was a tornado less than a mile from our house. When the announcement came that it touched down, our power went out. My son bravely faced the elements and got the generator started by 1:00 am. The chicks started to hatch by morning, but the power wasn't on, so we had to keep the generator going. We moved them to a box with a heat lamp and by Thursday, April 16th we had 34 chicks in the box. But the power is still not on! So we moved them to the brooder in the coop anyway, and kept the generator running. I have a few eggs left in the incubator, but if they haven't hatched by now, they likely will not.

We are grateful for a generator! It also gave us an excuse to keep it running which helped our freezers, refrigerators and our overall attitudes! I will be happy when the power is restored and I don't have to listen to the noise of the generator, but I am glad we have it nonetheless.
